Israeli occupation forces this evening suppressed the weekly sit-in protesting against Israeli authorities’ forcible expulsion plans in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, said local sources. Israeli police cracked down on the sit-in, beating up the participants and detaining four residents, including a Jerusalemite activist. The participants raised the Palestinian flag and banners condemning the Israeli occupation’s plans to forcibly expel the Palestinian residents of the neighborhood from their homes for the benefit of settler organizations. A statement issued recently by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the State of Palestine (OHCHR) said international law requires Israel to end all forced evictions and forcible transfers. The UN Human Rights Office in the OPT urged the Israeli Government to end all discriminatory evictions of Palestinians in Occupied East Jerusalem.
