Jordanian engineers, Mohammed Zinati and Salma Amayri, launched a technology that provides the “necessary” amounts of water and nutrients for plants by integrating smart systems that enable local farmers to reach the “optimal” use of water, fertilizer and energy resources. The state-of-the-art technology model is implemented in northern Jerash governorate within the project: project “Scaling up Water Innovation for Climate Security in Northern Jordan,” which is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with The Royal Scientific Society (RSS). This enterprise is part of the regional “Climate Facility to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Action for Human Security in the Arab Region” with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). In a statement to “Petra” on Thursday, Salma Amayri, a co-partner of “Smart Green for AgriTech Solutions,” the technology operates Smart Irrigation and Fertigation System (Fertigo), which saves water consumption by about 30% in open fields and 70% in closed systems. Amayri said the technology also remotely controls farm irrigation system round the clock and anywhere using Internet of Things innovations, which suits various agriculture types and crop varieties. The two engineers provided the technology with an interactive user interface in both Arabic and English, in a step aimed at digitizing the agricultural sector , using the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
