The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) hosted a meeting on Tuesday that brought together Jordanian and Tunisian commercial and service companies.
The meeting was held as part of a visit to the Kingdom by a delegation of Tunisian businesswomen.
The Jordanian-Tunisian trade volume is below ambitions despite an existing potential to increase trade exchange, ACC deputy chairman Nabil Khatib told the meeting, adding that Jordanian exports to the North African nation totaled JD12 million in 2022, mostly medicines, mineral or chemical fertilizers, organic compounds, flour, and semolina.
Noting that the delegation of female business leaders’ visit coincided with International Women’s Day, he stressed that boosting women’s participation in the labor market can help achieve higher economic growth rates and increase employment.
The ACC, he continued, formed a committee of businesswomen comprising business owners and workers in commercial and service sectors in Amman to enhance their economic participation.
Khatib called for raising opportunities in trade, services, tourism, transport, and logistics sectors, urging the delegation to benefit from agreements Jordan has signed with various global economic blocs.
Head of the delegation, Rauda Bensaber, representing the Tunisian Forum of Maghreb Women Pioneers, said the visit aims to look for areas of cooperation with the Jordanian private sector, pointing to the participation of businesswomen from Algeria.
The Tunisian embassy’s Charge D’affairs Mohamed Ben Habib said Tunisian-Jordanian relations are a role model, deriving its strength from a political will from the two countries’ leadership.
He underscored the importance of close economic cooperation between the Tunisian and Jordanian private sectors, which, he said, will offer opportunities for integration, diversify trade exchange and allow networking between businesswomen and the business community.
Habib said his country is willing to see the Jordanian private sector participating in projects in Tunisia, noting that foreign participation is part of the country’s national development plan for 2023-2025.
The Tunisian delegation comprised businesswomen specialized in a wide range of industries, including food packaging, garment, olive oil, pastry, billboard manufacturing and marketing, precious stones, real estate, construction, cosmetics, traditional confectionery, sanitary materials and bank financing.
