Caretaker Minister of Justice, Salim Jreissati, discussed with UNIFIL Commander, General Stefano Del Col, the legal affairs related to the work of the UNIFIL force operating in southern Lebanon.
“I was honored to welcome today the new UNIFIL commander in southern Lebanon, Major General Del Col. () The legal affairs surrounding the UNIFIL work have been discussed, with emphasis on the issues related to the Blue Line and the demarcation of the land borders one day, and then the maritime borders from the so-called ‘Hof’ line,” the minister said in the wake of the meeting, stressing Lebanon’s rights and assuring that the country “will no longer be open to anyone.”
“We discussed the recent security updates, especially yesterday’s raid on Syria,” he added, underlining Lebanon’s “rejection of being a conduit for any aircraft or missiles passing over its territory to bomb certain locations in Syria.”
“We also discussed the so-called wall under construction on the Blue Line, which is not at all the borders of Lebanon with Israel. The General was very understanding of the concerns of the Lebanese and the requests we usually make to correct the course of this wall, because it is key not to breach the Lebanese territory and thus Lebanon’s sovereignty,” Jreissati went on to say.
“We also touched on the recent report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres; a report which we have always demanded it be at least fair in terms of violations of resolution 1701,” he concluded.
