"Our environmental situation is greatly exacerbated by the impact of the Syrian crisis in the light of the presence of one and a half million displaced people from Syria," said Minister of Environment Fadi Jreissati, noting that Lebanon faced major environment sustainability challenges. However, despite these challenges, Lebanon has shown commitment to international agreements touching on the environment, and has set a strategy regarding the management and preservation of natural resources."
The Minister urged "to push Israel to implement the UN General Assembly resolution to compensate the Government of Lebanon for the damages caused by the oil spill caused during the 2006 Israeli war on Lebanon; a compensation estimated at $ 856.4 million."
The Environment Minister delivered his speech at the fourth session of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEA) in Nairobi, in the presence of leaders of countries, ministers, international organizations and those concerned with the environmental issue.
