KUWAIT: PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE TACKLES WOMEN RIGHTS, HOUSING

KUWAIT, April 21- Women affairs committee in the parliament discussed Sunday allowing Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis to apply for housing care, to guarantee equality with with Kuwaiti married to non-Kuwaiti females.

Committee Chairman MP Saleh Ashour told reporters the members discussed equality between Kuwaiti women and men, including the KD 70,000 credit loan, with Director General of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare Abdullah Al-Nomas, and Salah Al-Mudhaf, Director General of Kuwait Credit Bank.

The MP added that the government informed the committee it was amending regulations to guarantee equality.

Ashour said they also discussed provision of low-cost housing for women married to non-Kuwaitis. –

Meanwhile, Parliament’s committee for Finance and Economy members discussed Sunday the 2014-15 development plan, with Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh.

The minister pledged to provide views on the plan, and provide her vision for the new five-year plan next June, Committee chairman MP Faisal Al-Shaye told reporters.

The committee members also discussed amendments of laws of the Zakat House and Consumer Protection which were approved during the first reading in the last session, Al-Shaye added.
