The Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Greek Melkite Catholics, Gregory III Lahham, celebrated Palm Sunday Mass in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Damascus.
The prelate called in his homily for a consensual international road map, which ensured true victory and peace for Syria and the whole world. A victory which could not be achieved, according to him, by arms.
"I refer in this context to the aggression carried out by the largest country in the world against Syria, the country whose missiles have exacerbated the fire of hatred on Syrian territory," he said.
"We call on this country to establish a united coalition that will ensure victory and peace for Syria and the entire world," he said, calling all parties to dialogue, reconciliation and peace.
"I affirm that we have all, without exception, failed in the method of settlement of the Syrian crisis, locally, regionally, Arab and international. We must have a new vision for an international and consensual roadmap, for a victory that cannot be secured by weapons, "concluded the prelate.
