Minister of Agriculture, Hassan Al-Lakis, signed in Rome the HALEPP and FARM agreements between the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), represented by Dr. Gilbert Houngbo.
"Today, we are visiting the IFAD Center in Rome, first, to learn more about this center, its achievements in development, and its assistance to help and keep farmers in their land in rural communities and marginalized areas, and second to sign the HALEPP project on coordinated work to enhance livestock production and classification, and the FARM project on displaced persons, migrants, and people subject to forced displacement," the minister said.
"These projects are aimed at contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas resided by Lebanese families with low-income, and helping the displaced Syrians. The aim is to increase the incomes of small producers and manufacturers of milk and cheese, and to increase employment opportunities for Lebanese youth in communities affected by the Syrian crisis," he asserted.
