A magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit southern Mexico on Wednesday, according to the National Seismological Service.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 49 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Union Hidalgo town in the state of Oaxaca, the service said.

It occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
