Social Solidarity Minister Nevine Qabbag said on Saturday 24/12/2022 a 75-million-pound protocol was signed to boost Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 to help it get out of its current economic crisis.
The Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 is facing a severe crisis to keep its 320 beds in use over lack of donations and funding in the final quarters of 2022.
The minister, in statements while touring the hospital, expressed confidence that the medical edifice will stand back on its foot again and maintain its leading position as a pediatric oncology hospital, especially as it was able to achieve high cancer cure rates and get closer to the developed world rates of 80 – 85%.
The minister chatted with doctors and patients and their families over the quality of medical services offered now.
Over a decline in donations, the hospital was forced earlier this year to reduce the age limit for the monitoring of discharged patients.
Previously, patients, who are all under 18, would be monitored by the hospital after recovery until the age of 25. But now the age was dropped to 22.
Many artists and prominent figures have taken to social media to air their grievances with the matter, including Amr Youssef, and Zamalek football star Shikabala who raised a “Save Hospital 57357” shirt in advance to a match he was set to play on 20 December.
