MISSILE STRIKE TARGETS SYRIAN AIRBASE IN CENTRAL REGION

DAMASCUS, A missile strike targeted a Syrian airbase in central Syria Thursday, as air defenses foiled it, state news agency SANA reported.

The missile strike targeted the Daba'a airbase in the central province of Homs, but the Syrian air defenses intercepted the missiles, according to SANA.

The report said that explosions were heard in the vicinity of the airbase, spelling no further details.

Meanwhile, other reports said that warplanes, believed to be Israeli, targeted the Daba'a airbase with four missiles as a fire was caused nearby, adding that Iranian fighters use that base.

The attack is the latest in a string of foreign missile strikes targeting Syrian military positions.

Earlier on Thursday, a missile strike, believed to have been carried out by the U.S.-led coalition, targeted Syrian military positions in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, killing 12 pro-government fighters, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Such attacks are seen to be threatening regional peace with the Syrian government stressing resolve to continue to fight the foreign-backed terrorist groups despite the U.S. and Israeli strikes.
