The Muslim Council of Elders, under Al Azhar’s Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb, strongly condemned a terrorist attack on a mosque in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar, which left a number of people dead and injured.

In a statement released on Tuesday 31/1/2023, the council stressed its outright rejection of such terrorist acts that contradict all religious teachings as well as international law and norms.

The council called for joining international efforts to eradicate all forms of violence, intolerance, hatred and terrorism, the statement added.

It extended sincere condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded.
