Dubai: A number of HSBC customers across the Middle East and North Africa were unable to use their debit cards to pay for purchases or withdraw money from ATMs for a few hours on Saturday afternoon, as a technical problem hit the bank’s electronic transaction network.
HSBC’s Dubai office confirmed the disruption and said the issue has been resolved. “HSBC confirms we faced a system issue that impacted some HSBC debit card transactions in Mena yesterday. All systems were fully restored in about an hour. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers,” said an HSBC spokesperson.
A number of customers complained on social networks about the inconvenience the disruption caused them. The bank has agreed to review any impacted transactions. “We request any potential impacted customers to follow the standard dispute process,” the spokesperson said.
