A specialized committee selected the award winners. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) won the multimedia category, where 17 candidates competed, by submitting three visual press reports that dealt with settlement issues, local elections, and land grabs by the Israeli occupation. The reports were prepared by journalist Duha Humaidan. The Voice of Palestine Radio also won the award for audio media category, where seven candidates competed. Nisreen Awwad, a reporter and TV/Radio show presenter at Voice of Palestine Radio, won the award. Basma al-Kurd and Rasha Abu Jalal, from the Gaza Strip, also won an award in the digital media category. Eighteen candidates competed for the award. Birzeit university previously announced that a ceremony will be held on May 11, 2023, to memorialize the first anniversary of the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh.
