Orphan Black back for a second season

BBC America renewed its acclaimed sci-fi series Orphan Black for a 10-episode second season in May. On Monday it announced that season 2 will premiere this week.

The announcement was made via a 16-second graphic trailer during the encore broadcast of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor.

Orphan Black is a Canadian series starring Tatiana Maslany (Picture Day, Parks and Recreation) as a number of identical women who have been cloned. In particular, as Sarah Manning, a woman who takes on the identity of one of her clones after she stumbles upon her committing suicide.

The show first premiered in late March and met with generally favourable reviews, scoring 73 out of 100 on Metacritic. Fans of the show are particularly keen on the issues it raises concerning the moral ambiguity of human cloning.

Season 2 begins with Manning in a desperate search for her missing daughter, Kira (Skyler Wexler, Carrie.) The next 10 episodes are currently being filmed in Toronto.
