Dubai: The rewards have started coming the UAE cricket team’s way for their strong performances on the international stage of late. The region’s leading pay-television broadcaster OSN has come forward as the first ever corporate sponsor of the team.
OSN has inked a landmark deal with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). At a function held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Media City, OSN announced its commitment to promote cricket across the region. As team sponsor, the OSN logo will appear on all match and training gear of the UAE men’s national team for all home and away series in all formats including the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 2014, to be held in Bangladesh from March 16.
As part of the deal, OSN will also become the official team sponsor for the UAE women’s national cricket team, besides the UAE Under-19 and Under-16 teams.
The deal was announced in the presence of Aquib Javed, the UAE coach who has had a big role in shaping winning units, helping the senior team qualify for the World Cup and the World Twenty20 and the junior team get to the Under-19 World Cup. UAE national team players Ahmad Raza, Vikrant Shetty, Rohan Mustafa and Under-19 team captain Rohit Singh were also present.
Announcing the deal, David Butorac, Chief Executive Officer, OSN, said: “OSN is committed to establishing its position as the region’s home of cricket and our support of the UAE National Cricket Teams demonstrates our efforts to truly encourage regional cricketing talent on an international scale. Over the last few months, OSN has extended its support to a number of local and regional cricketing initiatives, and we will continue to invest in young talent, at the same time bringing viewers premium cricketing action from around the world.”
Acknowledging OSN’s decision to back UAE cricket, David East, the CEO of ECB, said: “The UAE National Cricket Team has made significant strides over the last year, championing the nation’s qualification into the prestigious ICC World Twenty20. We are delighted to have OSN on board with us on our ambitious journey to cricketing excellence.”
Coach Javed who went about the task of grooming the players for tough challenges and produced great results said: “It is a dream come true that we qualified for the World Cups. You have to be ambitious to achieve success and the team put in great effort to produce a good show. They deserve the honour and support.”
East also announced that all efforts are being made to provide contract for the players so as to enable the cricketers to devote more time for the game.
OSN will provide live coverage of the UAE’s Twenty20 world cup matches. The UAE’s match against the Netherlands on March 17 and the UAE-versus-Ireland tie on March 19 can be viewed on a OSN channel.
