Mirpur: Pakistan beat New Zealand by six wickets in a World Cup Twenty20 warm-up on Monday. New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum had led the Kiwis’ charge with an unbeaten 59 off 45 balls after his side won the toss and opted to bat first at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
But Kamran Akmal (52) and Mohammad Hafeez (55) responded in kind for Pakistan, who won by six wickets off the penultimate ball after posting a score of 149 for 4 in reply to the Kiwis’ 145 for 9.
Colin Murno was the only other contributor of note apart from McCullum for the New Zealanders after making 20.Umar Gul did the damage for Pakistan, taking three wickets for the loss of only 16 runs. Mohammad Talha took two wickets, but gave away 22 runs in his three-over spell.
In reply, Kamran Akmal scored 52 off 45 balls, comprising six fours and two sixes. Hafeez played a handsome knock of 55 runs. He smashed five sixes and three fours. Shoaib Maqsood made 16 runs to bring Pakistan home with one ball to spare.
