Palestine today stated that the impending Israeli bill on the annexation of nature reserves in the occupied West Bank is the outcome of international failure to enforce international law.
The Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry said in a press statement that the set of bills advanced by Israeli lawmakers, including the bill that aims to impose Israeli law on “national parks, nature reserves, national sites and memorials” in the occupied West Bank is the outcome of the failure of the international community to protect and enforce international law in the occupied territories.
The set of bills are scheduled to be presented to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, on Sunday.
The Ministry condemned the bill in the strongest possible terms and pointed that Israel, the occupying power, is proceeding with enacting more colonial and racist legislation intended to consolidate Israel’s occupation and settler-colonialism of the territories of the State of Palestine and entrench the existing system of apartheid through stepping up land grab, colonial settlement construction and accelerating silent annexation.
It added that Israel was exploiting the international policy of double standards in dealing with the Question of Palestine to grab and de-Palestinize more swaths of Palestinian territory in an attempt to alter the historic, political, legal and demographic status of the occupied territories with the ultimate goal of totally undermining any prospect for the realization of the establishment of the Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and further obstructing any enforcement of relevant United Nations resolutions.
