Palmyra farmers begin harvesting dates (Photos)

The season of dates picking in the Palmyra’s historic oasis has begun after farmers were deprived of it for more than ten years due to terrorist acts in the region.

A number of farmers told SANA reporter while picking bunches of dates and their faces are filled with joy that the return of historical Afqa spring, which feeds the oasis trees, helped to bring life again to the trees and the return of the farmers to their farms.

“The palm and olive in Palmyra oasis extend to an area of nearly 400 hectares, including about 80,000 palm trees of different varieties,” according to head of Environmental Development Office in Palmyra, Ghassan Abdullah.
