PM meets Vodacom CEO in Cairo

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has welcomed expansion projects of South Africa’s Vodacom mobile communications company, an offshoot of Vodafone Group, in Egypt.

During a meeting with Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub on Monday, the premier stressed the importance of a plan adopted by Vodacom to invest in Vodafone Egypt with a view to providing quality service for citizens and supporting the state’s digital transformation plan.

He further praised contributions that could be made by Vodafone at the COP27 conference, scheduled to be held in Sharm el Sheikh in November.

Joosub, for his part, stressed the importance of partnership relations with Egypt, considering Egypt one of the most important markets for his company.

The company will spare no effort to improve the quality of services it offers in Egypt, he said.

In November 2021, Vodafone Group announced that it agreed to transfer its 55% shareholding in Vodafone Egypt to Vodacom Group Limited (“Vodacom”), its sub-Saharan African subsidiary.

This transfer simplifies the management of Vodafone’s African holdings and further strengthens the delivery of connectivity and financial services in Africa, it said.
