Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today stated that ending the Israeli occupation and establishing a Palestinian state is key to regional peace and stability. Prime Minister Shtayyeh reiterated that the Palestine question and the Palestinian people’s just and heroic struggle would remain at the forefront for the international community despite Israel’s continuous attempts to divert attention from the Palestine question and mask its settler-colonialism. He added that ending the 56-year-long Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip) and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the key to peace and stability in the region. Shtayyeh made his remarks during a meeting with the Norwegian envoy for the Middle East peace process, Hilda Haraldstad with the attendance of the Head of Norway Representative Office Torunn Viste at his office in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. He briefed Haraldstad on the latest political developments and stressed the need for successful outcomes of the upcoming Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) Conference, to be held under Norway’s chairmanship, that would oblige Israel to abide by its pledges and all signed agreements.
