Amman: The President of the Royal Scientific Society, Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, delivered the keynote speech at the 2023 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), convened March 2-March 5 in Washington, D.C. entitled “Science for Humanity.”

Princess Sumaya said, “We regrettably live in a world where knowledge is so unevenly spread and where the benefits of scientific knowledge are often absent and where they are most acutely needed. “Humanity is not equally served by knowledge,” according to a statement.

She said while the global population was growing more rapidly in regions unable to provide knowledge, calling for efforts to spread knowledge that would support societies to weather challenges and realise sustainability.

“That potential is unknown and will remain so unless it is tapped, channelled and allowed to flow in directions that will nurture, renew and bring forth the fruit of human creativity,” she added.

AAAS CEO, Sudip Parikh, commended the princess for her “tireless” work in promoting science diplomacy through institutions such as the World Science Forum.
