Head of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdul-Amir Qabalan, deplored the sanctions imposed by the United States on a banking institution that has contributed to the development of the economy.
Qabalan also strongly denounced the recent Israeli aggression on Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
"...Israel remains the greatest evil that spreads conflict and destruction in the region. They desecrated the land and holy sites in Palestine, killed children and women violated all international standards and conventions, and ignored UN resolutions," he said.
In this context, Sheikh Qabalan called on the Arab leaders to confront the 'Zionist-American' project, which aims at plunging the country back into the clutches of colonialism and subjugate the Lebanese to the rule of the Mandate, in addition to the usurpation of properties and wealth.
"I call on Muslim and Arab countries to join the axis of the Resistance and stand in the face of unfair US sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran and support the Palestinian people in their struggle by all means to stop the US-Israeli aggression and thwart their plans in the region," Qabalan said.
At the economic level, he highlighted the pressing need to combat corruption, put a limit to waste expenditure and resort to austerity as important measures for Lebanon to overcome the current phase.
Finally, Qabalan highly praised the official Lebanese position and the decisions of the Supreme National Defense Council to confront any upcoming Israeli aggression.
