Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Rahi, met in Bkirky on Monday with a delegation from the French Senate and discussed the thorny issues of presidential elections and Syrian refugees.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador of France, Emmanuel Bonne.
Talks with the delegation centered on the election of a head of state and the role that France could play in facilitating this overdue Constitutional deadline by ameliorating view points between various Lebanese factions, and pressuring key states in aiding with the matter.
The influx and presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon was also a focal point in said meeting, especially with the soaring number of births among said refugees.
Rahi called for creating a safe zone within Syrian territories for the refugees to go back to the soonest possible.
"Any delay in their return will have grave consequences which Lebanon cannot handle," said the Patriarch, while asserting his empathy with their crisis.
