Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, strongly criticized Lebanon’s politicians who are obstructing the government formation.
Rahi, whose words came during Easter message in Bkirki this morning, said: “What can we say about those who intentionally obstruct the formation of the government and paralyze the state, and they do so to delude the people that the problem is in the constitution, while the constitution is the solution.”
“It has become clear that we are facing a plan aiming to change Lebanon, its entity, its system, its identity, its form and its traditions. There are parties that adopt a methodology of demolishing the constitutional, financial, banking, military and judicial institutions, one after the other. There are parties that also adopt the methodology of fabricating problems to prevent solutions and settlements,” the Patriarch added.
“We raise our voice with all the Lebanese about the need to from a government that revitalizes institutions and launches a reform workshop to bring in the promised Arab and international aid,” Rahi went on.
The Prelate deemed that holding an international conference for Lebanon is a way to solve the country’s pending problems, such as stabilizing its entity, its international borders, renewing the national partnership, strengthening sovereignty and independence, reviving legitimacy, strengthening the army, and implementing international decisions, in addition to solving the issues of the displaced Syrians and the Palestinian refugees.
He concluded by saying: “Stop sacrificing Lebanon and the Lebanese for the sake of other peoples, other causes, and other countries. Stop the personal jurisprudence in constitutional interpretations and the heresy of the Charter.”
