Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, on Friday met in Bkirki with UNIFIL Commander, General Stefano del Col, with whom he discussed the general situation and the work of UNIFIL in south Lebanon and its activities.
Patriarch Rahi paid tribute to UNIFIL's activities and the sacrifices of its peacekeepers to maintain peace and stability and to enhance development in south Lebanon.
Patriarch Rahi also met in Bkirki with the U.N. Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator, Philippe Lazzarini.
On emerging, Lazzarini welcomed the formation of the new Lebanese government which will enable the state to begin with the implementation of the long-awaited reforms, and to address urgent economic issues.
Lazzarini also briefed the Patriarch on the recent launch of the "Lebanon Crisis Response Plan 2019" pertaining to the displaced Syrians in Lebanon.
