Rajnikanth’s Kochadaiiyan, is ready for release on April 11 this year. Directed by his youngest daughter, Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, this futuristic fantasy tale features performance capture technology, a first in the history of Indian cinema. This technology was earlier seen in Hollywood films such as Avatar, Tin Tin and Beowulf.
Rajnikanth plays a double role in this epic dramatisation of good versus bad, with Deepika Padukone as his leading lady. The cast includes R. Sharath Kumar, Aadhi, Shobana, Rukmini and Nazar. Music has been scored by A.R. Rahman.
“Following last year’s celebrations of India’s filmmaking centenary we view the release of Kochadaiiyaan as part of the next step of Indian cinema,” said Ashwin. “For the first time a full-length feature has been made using performance capture technology in India and I truly hope this creates a whole alternate filmmaking avenue apart from live action films in our country.”
Sunil Lalla, M.D. of producers Eros International, said, “We are confident that this will be a landmark film in world cinema as a result of the ground breaking technology used. The film will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Bengali and Punjabi in India. The English version will be released simultaneously [the] world over.”
Coming up in February is the audio launch of the film which was shot extensively at Pinewood Studios in the UK with a team of world-class technical experts.
