The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said that the only path towards stability and peace (in the Middle East) is for the international community to finally address the root causes of the conflict including ending the occupation of Palestinian territory.

“These unprecedented hostilities – and rapidly mounting death toll – underscore the urgency for all parties to stop the violence and ensure civilians are protected,” NRC’s Palestine Country director, Ana Povrzenic, said Saturday in a statement.

“All parties must adhere to international humanitarian law by refraining from deliberately or indiscriminately targeting civilians. They must abide to the principles of humanitarian law,” Povrzenic added.

“We are monitoring the humanitarian impact and preparing to support those in need of humanitarian assistance,” Povrzenic concluded.
