Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed pleasure at receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade, noting that such an honor is not for himself but for the whole Egyptian people, whom he described as a key partner in the recent achievements made in the country at several levels.

President Sisi made the remarks during an honoring ceremony held at the university as part of his current visit to Belgrade.

The University of Belgrade’s president and council members, as well as Serbia’s minister of education, science and technological development voiced their pride in Sisi’s visit to the university, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.

The officials noted that honoring Sisi comes in recognition of his role in leading Egypt during a difficult period of unrest towards a new stage of development and construction through deep structural reforms he launched at the national level in the economic and social fields.

They also pointed out to Sisi’s efforts as regards launching major national projects in various sectors, contributing significantly to improving the services provided to Egyptian citizens and redrawing the development map of the country.

The Serbian officials lauded President Sisi’s efforts to upgrade the Egyptian education, especially via maximizing expenditure on basic education and raising the level of higher education through a series of substantive reform projects.

They lauded Sisi’s influential role in strengthening Egypt-Serbia relations, especially at the academic and cultural levels, which they deemed as an extension of historical relations between both countries under the umbrella of the Non-Aligned Movement.

They also highlighted President Sisi’s endeavors to encourage joint investments, pointing out to launching the Egyptian-Serbian Business Forum and the joint business council.

The officials commended as well the Egyptian leader’s effective contribution to promoting peace and cooperation at the regional and international levels, as well as his pioneering efforts to fight terrorism and illegal migration.

They also praised Sisi’s tireless efforts to combat climate change, which they said have culminated in Egypt’s hosting of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

President Sisi delivered a speech at the University of Belgrade, during which he talked about Egypt-Serbia relations and Cairo’s policy towards the most important regional and international issues.
