South Korea hits record current account deficit in January

Amman: South Korea recorded the largest current account deficit ever in January, with exports falling sharply amid growing concerns about the global economic recession,

 

The country’s current account deficit reached $4.52 billion in January, after recording a surplus of $2.68 billion in the previous month, South Korean Central Bank data showed Friday.

 

This is the largest monthly current account deficit since relevant data began to be compiled in January 1980, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.
