It is a dream debut for Keerthy Suresh, who starts her film career with noted Malayalam director Priyadarshan’s Geethanjali.
And of course sharing screen space with the legend, Mohanlal, who once again reprises the role of a psychiatrist, Dr Sunny Joseph, a character he last played in the national award winning film, Manichitrathazhu.
Priyadarshan however assured us that Geethanjali is not a sequel to Manichitrathazhu.
For Suresh, it came as a real surprise when Priyadarshan called her up while she was interning in London last year and offered her a role in his upcoming film.
“I play Anjali, who is in love with Anoop, played by Nishan,” revealed the fashion design student.
Ahead of their wedding, Anjali and Anoop visit their ancestral home in Trivandrum. But things don’t go as planned, which is why psychiatrist Dr Sunny Joseph is called in.
How did she prepare for the role?
“Actually nothing much,” said the younger daughter of yesteryear Malayalam actress Menaka Suresh and producer Suresh Kumar.
“Being a first timer, it was tough initially, but gradually as I understood my character, it became easier.”
What about working with Mohanlal?
“I have known Lal uncle since my childhood days. He is a close family friend. I was not scared as such but it felt different seeing Lal uncle act. He helped me a lot on the sets.”
A swimming champion during her school days, Suresh holds her mother’s advice close to her heart: “Be punctual on the sets and treat everyone equally.” Having opened her film career with a bang, the actress now returns to college, aspiring to start her own enterprise and create a brand sometime in the future.
Geethanjali, directed by Priyadarshan also stars Innocent, Seema, Madhu, Siddique, Swapna Menon and Suresh Gopi in a guest role. Music is by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Thiru of Krrish 3 fame.
