Syria, ESCWA discuss cooperation in environment, sustainable development

Syria and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia Organization (ESCWA) have discussed means of activating cooperation in the fields of environmental statistics, climate change, renewable energies, and capacity-building in the field of studies and sustainable development plans.

 

That came during a meeting held Tuesday between Local Administration and Environment Minister, Hussein Makhlouf and Rola Dashti Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of (ESCWA)

 

During the meeting, Minister Makhlouf underlined the necessity of setting a work plan that includes the domains of cooperation to enhance the administrative units in the local planning domain, follow-up the implementation of the sustainable development indicators, take advantage of non-traditional energies, enable the farmers and livestock breeders and the local community to benefit from the waste in bioenergy production

 

Dashti, for her part, expressed the organization’s desire to cooperate in the aforementioned fields which are currently under research in a way that would contribute to achieving sustainable development

 

Both sides agreed on developing a mechanism and a joint work plan to implement it as soon as possible
