Syria, Iraq discuss issues on international Hydrological Program cooperation

The Syrian and Iraqi national committees of the International Hydrological Program of UNESCO discussed on Thursday the strategic plan for the 9th phase of the program concerned with research and management of water issues, during a virtual meeting held today.

The two sides discussed the implementation of priority issues in the program plan, which focus on scientific research, innovation and water awareness to serve sustainability, bridge gaps in data and knowledge, and integrated management of water resources in light of climate changes and mechanisms of adaptation and mitigation of its effects.

The meeting comes within the framework of developing water cooperation between the two countries and the implementation of what was agreed upon during the visit of the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid al-Hamdani to Syria at the beginning of February.
