The tenth volume of the ‘Cyprus File’ was published on Wednesday by the Hellenic Parliament and the House of Representatives.

The joint initiative sheds light on known and unknown aspects of the Cyprus tragedy.

The files contain testimonial material collected by an investigative committee tasked to collect and evaluate evidence on the Greek military coup in Cyprus and the Turkish invasion that followed days in 1974.

Constantinos Tasoulas, Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament and Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives, noted in the forward that the work contains testimonies of the protagonists, the responsible individuals, and all those who were involved in the coup against Archbishop Makarios III, as well as all those whose actions were linked to the events of the Turkish invasion that followed.

The initiative of the two Parliaments to proceed jointly with this edition, as the two presidents of parliament point out, “aims to provide access to historical material that until now was considered a closely guarded secret, both in Greece, Cyprus, and our Diaspora, as well as to the scientific community, and shed light on known and unknown aspects of the Cypriot tragedy.”

The Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament and the House of Representatives of Cyprus emphasize that this initiative “simultaneously marks the beginning of a joint effort of the two Parliaments to collect any relevant material on the Cyprus File, scattered in various state and non-state archives, with the hope of opening up new avenues in research and expanding the field of historical knowledge, so that ample light may one day be shed on the darkest page of our modern history.”

The tenth volume includes minutes of the investigative committee held between November 19-26, 1986 during which a Ch. Palainis, G. Matatsis, A. Perdikis, E. Glentzes, M. Pilichos and D. Papapostolou testified.
