Baghdad, The Speaker of the Arab Parliament Union, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, visited the Syrian Arab Republic with the delegation of the Arab Parliamentary Union, which included a number of Speakers of Parliamentary Councils, heads of delegations and members.
The delegation met the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar al-Assad, at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in addition to visiting the Syrian People’s Assembly.
During the visit, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union affirmed its solidarity with and support for sisterly Syria, standing with its people, and continuing to provide the necessary capabilities after the earthquake that hit a number of cities and villages there. The delegation also extended condolences for the victims of the disaster, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
The Speaker of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union referred to the Union’s decision at the Baghdad conference, February 25, 2023, which stressed the need for joint Arab action at all levels for Syria’s return to its Arab surroundings, and the exercise of its role in the Arab, regional and international arenas.
