Baghdad, The Secretary General of the Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO – Juan Carlos Salazar and his accompanying delegation arrived in Baghdad today, Sunday. They were received by the head of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, Imad Abdul Razzaq Al-Asadi.
Al-Asadi stressed in a statement that this visit is considered the first in the history of Iraq, and a gateway to strengthening technical cooperation between the authority and ICAO represented by the ICAO Technical Cooperation Office through strengthening and developing national capabilities.
During the meeting, Al-Asadi reviewed the authority’s strategy during the coming period, which aims to develop the efficiency, security and safety of the air transport sector, stressing Iraq’s commitment to implementing the procedures of the international organization calling for financial and administrative independence to ensure the development of the civil aviation sector in accordance with international requirements.
For his part, the Secretary General of ICAO expressed his appreciation for Iraq and the positive developments it has achieved in a number of fields, appreciating its role in coordination and joint cooperation through permanent and active participation in the activities and initiatives that ICAO holds, in addition to the great keenness to exchange experiences and what contributes to reaching positive results that serve the Iraqi civil aviation sector, stressing the support of the International Organization for the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority.
