Damascus, : Minister of Tourism Bishir Yazaji on Wednesday discussed with Director General of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) Luis Monreal mechanisms for enhancing cooperation, developing prospects of cultural tourism, and protecting the cultural heritage in Syria.
During the meeting, Minister Yazaji stressed that the most prominent priorities of the next stage are the restoration of the archeological sites in Aleppo and Palmyra and paying attention to the domains social development and completing the tourist projects with the AKTC.
He shed light on the role played by the Agha Khan Trust in the domains of humanitarian support, development, training, and qualification.
For his part, Monreal said that the goal of his visit to Syria is to discuss with the Syrian government issues related to cultural tourism, the protection of the cultural heritage, and the possibility enhancing cooperation, in addition to finding new projects that would provide job opportunities to the families affected by the crisis in Syria.
