Dubai: During the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2014 (WTDC 2014), participating ITU Member States have delivered national policy statements outlining the key priorities for the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D). Majid Al Mesmar, TRA Deputy Director-General for the Telecommunication Sector, delivered the official UAE policy statement and outlined a number of strategic priorities for ITU-D over the next four years.

The statement included a range of topics including capacity building in developing countries, emergency telecommunications and Internet public policy issues such as Internet governance, cyber-security, e-learning, e-health and enabling technology to assist those with disabilities.
Al Mesmar commended the UAE leadership’s efforts in the area of ICT, where the national ICT sector is widely recognised as one of the most advanced ICT sectors in the world. The UAE seeks to provide an integrated broadband infrastructure. This strategic priority will result in providing high-quality services that advance all aspects of UAE Government service delivery including education, health and financial services for the benefits of UAE residents.
