Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir said Sunday the state is working on turning Sokhna Port into a central one and increasing Egypt’s chances in competing in world transit trade markets.
During a tour to follow up on the work progress in the port projects accompanied by Walid Gamaleddin, head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), Wazir said the development of the port would boost international transit trade and increase exports.
The minister inspected the quays of the port and listened to a report from Mohamed Khalil, the manger of the port development project, on the progress in digging operations and the railway, road and electricity and other utility projects inside the port.
The report affirmed that 75 percent of the dry digging operations, 42 percent of internal roads and 82 percent of the wave barriers project had been finalized.
