UK government under fire over immigration report

LONDON: Britain’s government is being accused of burying a report that suggests immigrants have only a small impact on the number of jobs for British people.
The Conservative-led government has said it will reduce immigration, and has cited research from the Migration Advisory Committee showing that 23 British workers are left unemployed for every 100 new arrivals.
But the BBC reports that a study by civil servants found a far lower figure.
The BBC says the report was completed last year but has not been made public.
Prime Minister David Cameron’s Downing Street office said Wednesday that it would be published “shortly.”
It said the government was sticking by its goal of reducing annual net migration — the difference between arrivals and departures — below 100,000. Last year it was 212,000.
