United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres late Wednesday called on the Security Council (SC) to investigate allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria, reported the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
A statement issued by the UN, said that Guterres, who on 20th March met with the Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), was alarmed at the persistent allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
"The use of chemical weapons, under any circumstances, is unjustifiable and abhorrent," the statement added.
"Impunity cannot prevail with respect to such serious crimes, it also stressed."
The secretary general reiterated his call for the Security Council to demonstrate unity and resolve on the issue.
