Under auspices of President al-Assad, 13th General Conference of Farmers Union kicks off

Upon the patronage of President Bashar al-Assad, the 13th General Conference of Farmers General Union started activities on Monday at Sahara Compound, Damascus Countryside under the slogan (Hope in Work… hope in agriculture).

The conference was attended by Assistant Regional Secretary of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party, Hilal al-Hilal, representing President al-Assad, People’s Assembly Speaker, Hammoudeh Sabbagh, and Prime Minister, Eng. Hussein Arnous.

“Despite the repercussions of the terrorist war which had destroyed the infrastructure of the agricultural sector, Syrian farmers have been able through their steadfastness to cover the needs of the local market of vegetables, fruits and various crops,” Head of the Farmers General Union, Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim said in a statement.

Ibrahim added that farmers are passing through difficult conditions due to climatic changes that have affected the country over the two last years, in addition to the lack of production requirements, especially fertilizers and fodder.

The conference will discuss reports on the work of the union and its projects in the next phase, and it will include the election of a new council for the Farmers Union, in addition to an executive office.
