The Israeli occupation authorities, and until the end of February, seized bank accounts and funds from 160 Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem who served time in Israeli prisons for their resistance of the occupation, including 24 prisoners who are currently behind bars, 55 released prisoners, and 81 family members of the prisoners, today said the head of the Committee of Families of Prisoners from Jerusalem, Amjad Abu Asab.

Fadi Obeidat, an attorney with the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission, said after visiting Mohammad Obeidat, 23, from Jabal al-Mukabber neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem arrested in 2016 and sentenced to 18 years in prison who is currently held in the Negev prison, that after the approval of the law regarding the prisoners from Jerusalem and inside Israel who receive allocations from the Palestinian Authority, his and his parents back accounts were seized, as well as their movable property. They were also ordered to pay an amount of 131,000 shekels ($36,000), and an amount of 136,000 shekels ($38,000) was seized from his father, in addition to 43,000 shekels ($12,000).

The Israeli fascist cabinet minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, has spearheaded a campaign to seize money from former and current Palestinian freedom fighters and from families of Palestinians killed by Israel who are paid allowances by the Palestinian Authority as a punishment, in addition to banishing the released prisoners from their city, whether it was occupied Jerusalem or towns in Israel, to the West Bank.
