Dushanbe, Syria’s ambassador to Russia, Dr. Riad Haddad, stressed the need to ensure respect for the principle of State sovereignty and support national efforts to combat terrorism.
“The phenomenon of international terrorism has become the most dangerous challenge facing the world today, which requires strengthening international cooperation according to more effective formulas,” Ambassador Haddad said in a speech before a high-Level Conference on “International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists” which was held in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan.
Haddad said that the violation of regional border security constitutes for Syria one of the most dangerous aspects of the terrorist war imposed on it, adding that some governments allowed terrorists to cross the border into Syria, provided them with all facilities and supported them with weapons .
He reiterated Syria’s rejection of attempts by some countries to justify their military intervention in Syria without the consent of the Syrian government under the pretext of combating terrorism.
“This represents an aggressive act and a violation of the UN Charter and the principle of State sovereignty and independence, and further prolongs the terrorist war against Syria and impedes the government’s efforts in the field of combating terrorism,” Haddad clarified.
Haddad pointed out that Syria is keen on international cooperation in combating terrorism, and has willingness to exchange experiences with countries that are serious and sincere in their efforts to combat terrorism.
