Will Federer win his sixth Dubai crown?

The stadium is full of tennis enthusiasts. Snacks are being put away and phones silenced. Anticipation is rising. It’s the Men’s Finals at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships – and the singles has just started.

Will Roger Federer win his sixth Dubai crown? Will he beat Tomas Berdych? Will he surpass John McEnroe, who is currently in third place on the all-time title list for a total of 77?

Is it Federer’s day to shine today?

Fans seem to be rooting for him. Antoine Rahimi, a French-Iranian resident, was whiling away a sunny afternoon at Dubai Tennis Stadium when we caught up with him.

Waiting for the Federer vs Berdych finals, he told Gulf News: “Federer is my idol! I managed to take pictures with him, Novak Djokovic, Berdych and most players over the past week.”

Shaiym and Nargiza from Kyrgyzstan bought season’s passes and flew to Dubai to catch the Men’s tournament. With Swiss flags painted on their cheeks, they’re eager for Federer to win.

Nargiza said: “I wish yesterday’s game between Federer and Djokovic could have been the final! The whole stadium was buzzing with energy.”

Federer beat Djokovic 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Will he lay claim to the title today? Or will Berdych maintain his 11-match winning streak?

We will know soon!
