Australia’s rider Ben O’Connor wins stage 3 of 6th UAE Tour atop Jebel Jais

RAS AL KHAIMAH: Australian Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team) today won stage 3 of the 6th UAE Tour after a perfectly-timed attack on the summit of Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah. The Ras Al Khaimah stage is the first mountain stage of this edition as the riders tackled the 21 km long climb of Jebel Jais

The Australian, who surged clear of a vastly reduced field with 1.2 km to go, finished ahead of Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) and Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny).

“It’s been a while since I last won a mountain top. It was amazing. The boys were super good today. Second win of the year it’s pretty cool. I was not confident in my sprint at the end so we decided to go full before the 1 km to go mark,” said O’Connor.

The third stage of the UAE Tour (Ras Al Khaimah stage), which has a distance of 176 km, began from Al Marjan Island in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, on Wednesday, 21st February, until the summit of Jebel Jais, followed by the fourth stage (Dubai Stage), which is 175 km long on Thursday
, 22nd, which starts at twelve-thirty in the afternoon, from the Dubai Police Officers Club, all the way to Dubai Harbour.

The UAE Tour 2024 – the only international race in the Middle East – will be held from 19th to 25th February.
