House President certain that parliament’s excellent relation with the Foreign Ministry will continue

The parliament and the Foreign Ministry have had an excellent relation, with respect to the separation of powers, House President, Annita Demetriou said on Tuesday, expressing certainty this relation will continue during Konstantinos Kombos’ term of office as well. Demetriou was speaking during a meeting at the parliament with Kombos, who on his part, said that he looks forward to a productive cooperation on many issues that need to be addressed, which, as he noted, will be very useful. The House President welcomed the Minister and wished him good luck in his new duties in a very important Ministry, as she noted. She added that parliamentary diplomacy is an indispensable part of the parliamentary affairs. “That is why we have had an excellent relation with the Foreign Ministry – respecting always the separation of the powers – and I am certain that this will continue with you as well,” she said. Moreover, Demetriou referred to the participation of the Minister in the meeting of the House Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, which followed, to discuss issues related to his portfolio. The House President underlined that “we will be here to cooperate as we have to the benefit of Cyprus on all issues – which are not few – that we have to deal with right now.” On his part, Kombos said that he looks forward to a constructive cooperation, “to build on what we have and to try to coordinate on may issues that we have to deal with, with the help of the parliament and you personally, your colleagues at the Foreign Affairs Committee,” adding that this cooperation “will certainly be very useful.” “Our aim today is to have a first meeting to know each other, to brief, to listen and to see how we can move forward as regards the multiple challenges that we have before us in the near future,” the Foreign Minister noted.
