Iranian President meets Mikdad : Importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity

Tehran, SANA- Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, called for respecting Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, stressing Tehran’s continued cooperation with Syria and the development of bilateral relations in various fields.

The Iranian President who received Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fayssal Mikdad, said that the Iranian side stressed during the meeting of guarantor states of the Astana process the need to refrain from any measures that affect Syria’s sovereignty, which will negatively affect all countries concerned , adding that the solution to any problems must be through dialogue and respect for the Syrian sovereignty.

Raisi pointed out that the Iranian side also stressed the need for the US forces deployed in Syria illegitimately to leave and stop looting Syrian resources, and to lift unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

Minister Mikdad, for his part, indicated Syria’s satisfaction with the results of the tripartite summit of the guarantor states of the Astana process and voiced appreciation for the clear and principled stances taken by Iran towards Syria, especially those expressed during the summit, stressing that cooperation and coordination between the two countries always leads to positive results.

The Minister also briefed the Iranian President on the latest developments related to Syria, including the situation in northern Syria and aspects related to the humanitarian situation, stressing Syria’s determination to enhance its relations with Iran in various fields and increasing joint coordination at various levels.
