Amman – Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, engaged in crucial talks with his Slovenian and Portuguese counterparts, Tanja Fajon and Joao Cravinho, focusing on efforts to halt the Israeli war in Gaza and protect civilians.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministers discussed the recently initiated humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the necessity of allowing sufficient urgent aid into the strip. According to Safadi, the truce represents a positive direction but must lead to an immediate and lasting cessation of hostilities and ensure aid access throughout Gaza. Slovenian Minister Fajon underscored Jordan’s vital role in regional security and stability, sharing concerns about the situation in the West Bank. She also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the largest possible humanitarian relief effort, reaffirming support for the two-state solution as the path to resolving the conflict.

Portuguese Minister Cravinho lauded Jordan’s leadership role at the United Nations in efforts to stop the war. He advocated for extending the truce and highlighted that only diplomatic and political solutions can resolve regional conflicts, expressing Portugal’s opposition to the displacement of Gazans. The ministers are scheduled to meet again at the 8th Regional Forum of the Union for Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona, co-chaired by Jordan and the European Union, to explore ways to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and address the humanitarian crisis.
