The Ministry of Labor suspended operations of 3 offices for recruiting non-Jordanian house workers and closed 1 agency during the first half of 2024 for violating provisions of the Labor Law and the related regulations and instructions. Meanwhile, the ministry completed 18 license renewal transactions for other similar offices. In a press statement Sunday, director of the ministry's Domestic Workers Directorate, Fayez Jbour, said 33,834 recruitment transactions were completed, noting that Ethiopian nationality recorded the highest number for this purpose during the first half of the current year. Jbour noted Jordan recruits domestic workers from 7 countries, including 4 African countries, namely Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya, and 3 Asian nations of Bangladesh, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Jbour added that a total of 3,897 workers were recruited from Ethiopia, recording the highest figure, followed by Ugandan nationality at 3,179 and then Filipinos at 1,321. After dealing with the complaints, Jbour said the ministry's efforts succeeded in returning about JD133,637 to homeowners and also collected wages of domestic workers, which amounted to approximately JD15,764.
